- Stop smoking, using drugs and chewing tobacco
- Limit alcohol
- Exercise regularly
- Eat less animal fat, cholesterol and sodium
- Eat more complex carbohydrates
- Drink more water
- Achieve and maintain ideal body weight
Do the steps sound too difficult? Statistics show that 85 percent of deaths prior to age 65 are both preventable and unnecessary. These deaths are often the cause of poor lifestyle decisions. The choice to make small daily decisions regarding time spent exercising and the types of meals being eaten should be considered investments.
“Men and women must make healthy food choices and remain physically fit in order to live an active, full, and functional life,” said Simmons.

Yoga Tips for Women: Plough
Plough is a moderate to tough stretch that can be easily modified. Works abdominal muscles and stretches lower back.
1. Starting in relaxation pose, on your back, bring your legs straight up towards the sky and then bending at the waist roll them over your head until your toes touch the ground behind your head.
2. Be sure that you look toward the sky keeping you neck in alignment is very important on this pose so that you do not cause injury to yourself. Keep your legs straight and curl your toes.
3. Keep stomach tight and support your lower back with your hands.
Modification: Get a chair to put your feet on instead of the floor.
